About Redeeming Hope

Redeeming Hope is a registered South African Non-Profit Organisation based in Johannesburg, Soweto, providing structured residential mental health care, psychosocial rehabilitation, and community reintegration support for individuals living with mental health challenges.
The organisation was established to address the gap between hospital care and long-term community support by offering a safe, stable, and recovery-focused residential environment where individuals can receive 24-hour supervision, medication support, emotional and psychosocial rehabilitation, life skills development, and structured reintegration support.

Redeeming Hope is guided by a governance team consisting of Phumzile Lebuso (Founder & Chairperson), Gugulethu Sitoe (Co-Founder & Treasurer), and Nomsa Mokgethi (Co-Founder & Secretary), supported by a multidisciplinary team of mental health practitioners, nurses, social workers, counsellors, and care support staff who deliver holistic, person-centred care.
At its core, Redeeming Hope exists to restore dignity, promote recovery, and support individuals and families affected by mental health challenges through compassionate, structured, and continuous care.

Founder Story / Why We Exist

Redeeming Hope was founded from a deeply personal understanding of the mental health journey and the challenges that come with recovery, long-term care, and reintegration into society. The founder’s lived experience with serious health and mental health challenges shaped a strong belief that healing is possible when people are supported with dignity, structure, and consistent care.
This journey revealed a critical gap in accessible, long-term residential mental health support within communities—especially for individuals who require more than short-term intervention. Out of this need, Redeeming Hope was created as a safe and structured environment where individuals can stabilise, recover, rebuild daily living skills, and gradually reintegrate into society with the right support systems in place.
Today, this foundation continues to drive the organisation’s purpose: to restore dignity, promote recovery, and provide hope to individuals and families affected by mental health challenges.
